At DogWatch of the Columbia Basin, we’re passionate about pets and committed to making a positive impact in our Tri-Cities community. As much as we love providing high-quality products for your furry friends, we also want to shine a light on some incredible non-profits that are dedicated to improving the lives of pets and their humans.

The Importance of Nonprofits

Nonprofits typically focus on social issues, in this case, animals! They work to raise awareness and advocate for change. Many non-profits focus on education, providing resources and training to empower individuals and communities that support animals and their owners in need.

The goal of many non-profits is to increase the quality of life for animals and to make sure they are taken care of and have the opportunity to go to good homes. The non-profits in our area create positive change and inspire others to join in their mission, ultimately benefiting us all.

Here you will find a few of our favorite pet-focused organizations in the Tri-Cities. Local and ready to help animals and their humans in need.

Tri-Cities Animal Shelter

The Tri-Cities Animal Shelter (TCAS) is located in Pasco, Washington. It is a publicly funded stray/redemption facility that serves the residents and animals within the city limits of Pasco, Richland, and Kennewick.

There are many ways to get involved. You can adopt, volunteer, or foster. The volunteers and fosters are what make up the shelter.  Whether it’s helping with laundry, walking the dogs, or spending time reading to the pets, every act of volunteerism makes a significant impact.

Friends of the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter

Closely related to the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter is the Friends of the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter. They are a non-profit that raises funds and awareness of the animal shelter. It is all volunteer-based and provides supplementing funds for the TCAS.

They have two main goals, to improve the quality of life of the shelter animals and increase their chances of a timely adoption. There are many ways to donate, either by PayPal, Venmo, or snail mail.

The funds are then allocated for a multitude of different things including:

  • Spay/Neuter
  • Routine Veterinary
  • Emergency Veterinary
  • Medical and Behavioral Evaluations
  • Training/Behavioral Rehabilitation
  • Grooming
  • Consumable and Durable Goods
  • Adoption Campaigns

Pet Overpopulation Prevention Tri-Cities

Pet Overpopulation Prevention Tri-Cities is a nonprofit with the goal to educate the public regarding spaying and neutering their pets, spay/neuter assistance, and providing various methods of caring for and finding homes for feral, abandoned and/or homeless pets.

They are there for animals who need a second chance and need spaying and neutering your furry friend. They care about animals and people alike, needing volunteers and donations to continue running. They pledge to end the overpopulation of homeless pets. Check out their website to donate.

Tri-City Kitty Rescue

The Tri-City Kitty Rescue is a nonprofit that helps motherless kittens all over the tri-cities and eastern Washington. They partner with other nonprofits and fosters to help kittens. They hope that kittens find a permanent home, especially after their rescue from whatever yucky circumstances they started in. Situations that otherwise may have been their ending, but Tri-City Kitty helps those kittens in need.

You can donate, volunteer, or foster!

Mikey’s Chance

Mikey’s Chance is a nonprofit canine rescue, providing safety to dogs in desperate circumstances. They are located in the tri-cities, focusing on saving dogs in this area, but place dogs all over the Pacific Northwest. They focus on at-risk dogs in shelters that face the threat of euthanasia. Some dogs are released to them when they need medical help, are strays, or need a chance at a new life. You can help them by becoming a pet foster home, or by volunteering with their organization.

Donations can be made via PayPal, snail mail, or an Amazon wishlist that is provided on their website. If you see a dog in need, and you are struggling to find a home since you can’t take it in, make sure to contact Mikey’s Chance.

We love dogs, cats, and pets, and we are very grateful for these non-profits and all the work they are doing to educate and connect pets in need with their humans.
